This page starts on the bold styles only; the other tabs open the full set of 64 styles from the FontFancy fancy text generator. Below you will find every bold letter and digit on its own, ready-made bold names, and three side effects of Unicode bold that most generators never mention.

Unicode block: Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols (U+1D400โ€“U+1D7FF) โ€” bold serif starts at U+1D400, sans-serif bold at U+1D5D4, bold digits at U+1D7CE; the filled ๐Ÿ…ฑ and โ“ฟ styles come from the Enclosed Alphanumeric blocks.

Six bold styles and when each one fits

Unicode has six bold alphabets for Latin letters, and they do not look alike. Serif bold reads as formal, sans bold as modern, and bold script as decorative; the table shows the same word in each so you can pick by feel rather than by name.

Bold fraktur๐•ป๐–—๐–Ž๐–ž๐–† ๐•พ๐–๐–†๐–—๐–’๐–†Gothic, heavyClan names, metal or dark themes

Two more styles look bold without being bold letters: filled squares ๐Ÿ…ฑ๐Ÿ…พ๐Ÿ…ป๐Ÿ…ณ and filled bubbles ๐Ÿ…‘๐Ÿ…ž๐Ÿ…›๐Ÿ…“. They come from the Enclosed Alphanumeric Supplement block, and on many phones they display as coloured emoji tiles rather than text, so treat them as decoration rather than as a way to make a sentence bold.

Bold alphabet: single letters and numbers

Sometimes you only need one bold letter โ€” an initial in a username, a bold number in a list, a capital to start a caption. Every tile below is a single character; tap it to copy just that letter. Bold serif and bold sans are shown because they are the two most widely supported bold alphabets.

Bold serif (62)

Bold sans (62)

Bold serif A is U+1D400 and bold sans A is U+1D5D4. There is no bold version of punctuation, so commas, full stops and emoji stay as they are when you convert a sentence.

Apps that already have a bold button

Before you paste Unicode bold, check whether the app has real bold formatting. WhatsApp makes text bold when you wrap it in single asterisks, and Discord does the same with double asterisks โ€” and that native bold keeps the normal letters, so it stays searchable and screen-reader friendly.

Native bold formatting in WhatsApp and Discord compared with Unicode bold text for Instagram, TikTok and LinkedIn
Chat apps with markup get real bold; profile fields without a bold button need Unicode bold.
Where you are typingReal bold available? What to do
WhatsApp messageYes โ€” *text*Use the asterisks; Unicode bold is only needed in your profile name or about line
Discord messageYes โ€” **text**Use markdown in chat; Unicode bold for your server nickname
Instagram bio or captionNo bold buttonUnicode bold from the generator above
TikTok display name or bioNo bold buttonUnicode bold (display name only โ€” the @username accepts plain letters)
LinkedIn headline or About sectionNo formatting optionsUnicode bold, used sparingly for one key phrase

The same split decides how people will read your WhatsApp display name: *asterisks* only work inside messages, so a bold name has to use Unicode characters. The mix of what works where is different again for fancy fonts on Instagram, which we cover in our Instagram fonts guide.

Bold names and words to copy

Ready-made bold strings, grouped by what people use them for. The first group is short words and numbers that people bold on their own; the second is decorated names and tags you can copy as they are or use as a pattern for your own name.

Bold reactions with kaomoji (15)

A kaomoji face next to one bold word makes a reaction that reads at a glance in a comment or group chat. Faces stay in normal characters; only the word is bold, so it survives even where the face renders slightly differently.

Your own name in bold: 20 worked examples (20)

Each example shows a first name, the bold style used and a matching frame. To make your own, type your name into the generator at the top, open the Bold styles tab, copy the style you like and add the same symbols on each side.

Heavy symbols that match bold letters

Thin, lacy ornaments look lost next to heavy letters. These symbols have a solid visual weight โ€” crowns, lightning, filled stars and thick rules โ€” so they balance a bold name instead of competing with it. Most are single-colour text symbols that keep the colour of the surrounding text; the ๐Ÿ‘‘ and ๐Ÿชฝ pieces are colour emoji.

Three side effects of Unicode bold

Unicode bold is a different set of characters, not a formatting layer, and that has three practical consequences worth knowing before you bold an entire bio.

1. Search may or may not find it

Whether bold text is found by search depends on whether the search box normalises text. Unicode defines a compatibility mapping, called NFKC, that folds ๐ (U+1D401) back into a plain B (U+0042). Search systems that apply it will match your bold name to a plain query; systems that compare characters exactly will not.

Unicode bold letters folding back to plain letters under NFKC normalisation in search
NFKC turns every bold letter back into its plain form โ€” useful for search, invisible to the reader.

Because you cannot tell from the outside which kind of search an app uses, keep the plain spelling of your name somewhere on the profile if people need to find you by typing it โ€” in the @username, for example.

2. It can count as more characters

Every bold letter sits outside the Basic Multilingual Plane, so it takes two UTF-16 code units and four UTF-8 bytes instead of one. Fields that count code units, as some name and bio limits do, see a bold word as twice as long.

TextCharacters you seeUTF-16 unitsUTF-8 bytes
Bold444
๐๐จ๐ฅ๐4816
๊ง๐๐จ๐ฅ๐๊ง‚61022

If a game or app rejects a bold name as too long even though it looks short, this is usually why. Shorten the name or leave the frame symbols off.

3. Screen readers may not read it as a word

Each bold character has its own Unicode name, such as Mathematical Bold Capital B. Depending on the device and settings, a screen reader may spell those names out, read single letters, or skip them. Use bold for a name or a short heading, and keep instructions, prices and links in normal text.

Hindi, Urdu and other scripts

There is no bold Unicode version of Devanagari, Urdu, Tamil or any script other than Latin and Greek, so a โ€œHindi bold text generatorโ€ cannot exist in the copy-and-paste sense. What you can do is write the word in English letters and style that โ€” Pyaar becomes ๐๐ฒ๐š๐š๐ซ โ€” which is exactly what people do with Tamil words in Amma, Appa and Ennaval font styles. The reason is explained in more depth in what fancy fonts really are.

Colour works the same way: plain text has no colour, so a โ€œblue bold textโ€ can only be made where the app itself colours text, or by using coloured emoji letters such as ๐Ÿ…ฑ๐Ÿ…ป๐Ÿ†„๐Ÿ…ด. If you want slanted rather than heavy letters, the italic text generator works exactly like this one.

Where bold text works (checked 30 September 2026)

Bold text works in the name, bio and message fields of Instagram, WhatsApp and Discord, and usually in Free Fire and BGMI names; it fails in @usernames and on devices whose fonts lack the characters. Field rules below come from each platformโ€™s own help pages; game fields publish no character list.

Where you pasteWorks?What to know
Instagram name, bio, captionsYes@username stays plain; each bold letter counts as 2 of the bioโ€™s 150 characters
WhatsApp profile name, About, messagesYesMessages also have real bold: wrap text in *asterisks*
Discord display name, messagesYesMessages also have Markdown bold: **text**
Free Fire / BGMI nameUsuallyNo published character list โ€” check the rename preview first
Old Android (before 7) and some smart TVsOften boxesFonts there lack the maths block

If a style turns into empty boxes, the readerโ€™s device is missing those characters โ€” what are fancy fonts explains which blocks are safest. Free Fire and BGMI are trademarks of Garena and Krafton; FontFancy is independent of both. For a different look, try the gothic text generator or the upside down text tool, or go back to FontFancy (fancy text generator) for all 64 styles.

Questions people ask about bold text

How do I make bold text to copy and paste?

Type your text into the bold text generator at the top of this page, tap one of the bold styles to copy it, and paste it wherever you want. The result is made of Unicode bold characters, so it stays bold in apps that have no bold button.

Does bold text work on Instagram and Facebook?

Yes. Instagram bios and captions and Facebook posts accept Unicode bold, because it is text rather than formatting. It will not work in an @username, which only allows plain letters, numbers, dots and underscores.

Why does my bold text show boxes on some phones?

The phone is missing a font that contains those characters. Bold serif and bold sans are the most widely supported; bold script and bold fraktur are more likely to show empty boxes on older devices.

Is WhatsApp bold the same as this bold text?

No. WhatsApp bold with asterisks is real formatting that keeps normal letters. Unicode bold replaces the letters with different characters. Use asterisks in messages and Unicode bold where WhatsApp offers no formatting, such as your profile name.

Can I make bold numbers?

Yes. Bold serif and bold sans both include digits 0 to 9, shown in the bold alphabet section. Tap a digit to copy it on its own.

Checked on 14 September 2026: character codes and counts were verified against the Unicode Character Database; WhatsApp and Discord formatting against their help pages.
