A cursive font generator swaps each letter for a Unicode script character — 𝒶 for a, 𝓪 for bold script a — so your name keeps its handwriting look after you paste it into Instagram, TikTok, WhatsApp or a game. Type above, pick Script or Bold script, tap to copy.
The box at the top is the same generator that powers FontFancy, opened on its cursive styles. This page adds what the style list cannot show: which script letters come from a different Unicode block, signature-style name layouts, caption sets for weddings and birthdays, and when cursive stops being readable.
Script or bold script: pick by weight, not by name
Unicode has two cursive alphabets, and the choice between them is mostly about stroke weight. Bold script has thicker, rounder strokes that stay legible at small sizes; script is thinner and more formal, closer to copperplate lettering on an invitation.
| Script | Bold script | |
|---|---|---|
| Your name | 𝒦𝒶𝓋𝓎𝒶 ℐ𝓎ℯ𝓇 | 𝓚𝓪𝓿𝔂𝓪 𝓘𝔂𝓮𝓻 |
| Feel | Formal, fine-line | Warm, confident |
| Starts at | U+1D49C | U+1D4D0 |
| Letters from another block | 11 (see below) | None — all 52 in one block |
| Best for | Short captions, invitations, a single word | Display names, bios on small screens |
If your text includes any of the letters B, E, F, H, I, L, M, R, e, g or o, bold script gives the more even result, because every one of its letters was drawn as part of the same set.
The 11 script letters Unicode borrows from another block
The regular script alphabet in the Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block has 11 empty positions. Those letters — ℬ, ℰ, ℱ, ℋ, ℐ, ℒ, ℳ, ℛ, ℯ, ℊ and ℴ — had already been encoded in the older Letterlike Symbols block, so Unicode reserved the new slots and left them unassigned. A correct cursive generator fills each gap with the older character, which is what the tool above does.
| Letter | Script | Code point used | Unicode name | Empty slot | Bold script |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
B | ℬ | U+212C | Script Capital B | U+1D49D (unassigned) | 𝓑 |
E | ℰ | U+2130 | Script Capital E | U+1D4A0 (unassigned) | 𝓔 |
F | ℱ | U+2131 | Script Capital F | U+1D4A1 (unassigned) | 𝓕 |
H | ℋ | U+210B | Script Capital H | U+1D4A3 (unassigned) | 𝓗 |
I | ℐ | U+2110 | Script Capital I | U+1D4A4 (unassigned) | 𝓘 |
L | ℒ | U+2112 | Script Capital L | U+1D4A7 (unassigned) | 𝓛 |
M | ℳ | U+2133 | Script Capital M | U+1D4A8 (unassigned) | 𝓜 |
R | ℛ | U+211B | Script Capital R | U+1D4AD (unassigned) | 𝓡 |
e | ℯ | U+212F | Script Small E | U+1D4BA (unassigned) | 𝓮 |
g | ℊ | U+210A | Script Small G | U+1D4BC (unassigned) | 𝓰 |
o | ℴ | U+2134 | Script Small O | U+1D4C4 (unassigned) | 𝓸 |
Checked with the Unicode Character Database: all 11 slots are unassigned, and bold script (U+1D4D0–U+1D503) has no gaps. Normalisation (NFKC) turns every script letter, borrowed or not, back into its plain letter.
Signature-style names in cursive
A cursive signature online is a name plus one small mark — a dash before it, a pen or a flourish after it. Each tile is labelled with the mark and the script style used, so you can rebuild the same look with your own name in the generator.

Collected decorated strings that mix script letters with symbols. A few mix script with other alphabets on purpose, such as ℛosie, where only the capital is cursive.
Cursive alphabet to copy, letter by letter
Tap a single letter to copy it — handy for an initial, a monogram or fixing one character in a longer name. The script set below leaves out the 11 borrowed letters shown in the table above; bold script is complete.

There are no script digits in Unicode — and no italic digits either — so a cursive name that needs a number looks most natural with a plain digit.
Why one capital can look different from the rest
A borrowed letter such as ℬ is drawn by whichever font on the device covers the Letterlike Symbols block, while its neighbours come from a maths font. When those are two different fonts, ℬ can look taller, thinner or more upright than 𝒜 and 𝒞 beside it. It is still the correct character; the device is simply mixing fonts.
Unicode also defines two named variants for the 26 script capitals: chancery (add U+FE00) and roundhand (add U+FE01), listed in its StandardizedVariants data file. Few fonts draw the difference yet, so on most phones both tiles below will look identical — but the selector character is really there, and a font that supports it will switch shape without the text changing.
Joined handwriting vs script text
Cursive handwriting joins letters into one stroke; Unicode script cannot. Every script letter is a separate character with its own spacing, so the result looks like elegant separate letters rather than connected writing, and no copy-and-paste tool can change that.

If you need truly joined lettering — for a logo, a tattoo stencil or a printed invitation — you need a script font file installed in a design app, not a text generator. The same distinction runs through the gothic lettering guide: Unicode styles are for places where you can only type, fonts are for places where you can design.
What about calligraphy font generators?
Search results for “calligraphy font generator” are mostly downloadable font collections and image makers, not copy-and-paste text. That is because real calligraphy depends on stroke contrast and joins that plain text cannot carry. The nearest pasteable equivalents are the script and bold script styles on this page; anything more ornate, including Hindi or Arabic calligraphy, has to be made as an image or with an installed font.
Captions for weddings, love and birthdays in script
Script reads as celebration, which is why it shows up on invitations and anniversary posts. These short captions are set in the two cursive styles; keep them to a line or two, since long script paragraphs tire the eye.

For a profile rather than a post, the Instagram fonts guide shows how script display names fit into the 150-character bio.
Symbols and kaomoji that suit script
Fine-line symbols — swans, pearls, ribbons, crescent moons — match the thin strokes of script better than heavy stars or blocks. For more shapes built around names, see the heart, star and crown symbol sets.
Delicate symbols (54)
Soft kaomoji (14)
Single emoji accents (8)
One colour emoji at the end of a script name is usually enough; several in a row compete with the letters.
When cursive gets hard to read
Cursive works for names and short phrases, and stops working for anything people must read quickly. Keep script to under about a dozen words, avoid it for prices, dates and instructions, and never script a whole bio line by line.
- Small screens: thin script letters blur at small sizes; bold script survives better.
- Search: platforms that normalise text find 𝒜𝓃𝒶𝓃𝓎𝒶 as Ananya, others do not, so keep the plain spelling in your username.
- Screen readers: each letter has a long Unicode name such as “mathematical script small a”, which some readers announce letter by letter.
- Mixed styles: if you want slanted rather than looped letters, italic is the calmer choice; the italic generator explains how italic, oblique and script differ.
For softer, pastel-styled names that mix cursive with small caps and sparkles, the aesthetic text generator goes further, and ready-made name combinations live in nickname fonts.
Questions about this cursive font generator
How do I type in cursive and copy it?
Type your text into the cursive font generator at the top of this page, choose Script or Bold script, and tap the result to copy it. It pastes as Unicode script characters, so it stays cursive in apps without font options.
Can I get cursive numbers?
No. Unicode has script letters but no script digits, so any generator leaves numbers plain. Plain digits look more natural next to script than bold or double-struck numbers.
Why do some cursive capitals look different?
Eleven script letters, including B, E, H and R, come from the older Letterlike Symbols block. Your device may draw them with a different font from the rest, so they can look slightly taller or thinner.
Does cursive text work on Instagram and TikTok?
Yes, in display names, bios and captions, because they accept Unicode text. It will not work in an @username, which allows only plain letters, numbers, dots and underscores.
Is this the same as a calligraphy font?
No. Calligraphy fonts are files you install in a design app and can join letters. Unicode script is typed text: it pastes anywhere but every letter stays separate.
